Add Page Numbers — Bottom, Top, Any Corner, Your Format

Pick a position, choose a format (1 · Page 1 · 1 / N), set the range, watch the live preview, then download. Nothing is uploaded.

Quick answer: Stamp page numbers on every page of your PDF: bottom or top, left/center/right, formats like 1, Page 1, 1 / 10. Live preview, custom range, font size — all in your browser.

How to use

  1. Load your PDF — page 1 appears with a live preview.
  2. Choose position, format, range — the preview updates as you type.
  3. Stamp & download — numbers go on as real text.

About this tool

Numbering a contract, thesis or scanned report? Choose one of 7 positions (bottom-left/center/right, top-left/center/right), a format (3, Page 3, 3 / 12, Page 3 of 12), start number and page range — the live preview shows exactly where the number lands on page 1. Numbers are stamped as real PDF text (crisp at any zoom, selectable), not images. Your file never leaves this page — everything runs in your browser, there is no upload endpoint on this site, and the document is dropped from memory when you close the tab.

FAQ

Do the numbers stay selectable text?
Yes — they are drawn with a standard PDF font, so they remain vector text: sharp at any zoom, selectable and searchable.
Can I skip the cover page?
Yes — set the range to 2-999 (or your last page) so numbering starts on page 2; the Start-at field sets what number page 2 shows.
Will it work on scanned PDFs?
Yes — numbers stamp on top of scanned images exactly like on normal pages.
Can numbers go in a margin/gutter?
Adjust the margin box (in points, 1 pt = 1/72 inch) to push numbers further in or out.
Is my file uploaded?
No — Your file never leaves this page — everything runs in your browser, there is no upload endpoint on this site, and the document is dropped from memory when you close the tab.
What about 'Page X of Y'?
Pick the 'Page 3 of 12' format; total count is computed automatically from your file.

Numbering a thesis without counting the cover

Add page numbers stamps selectable text — a plain number, 'Page 3', '3 / 12' or 'Page 3 of 12' — onto your PDF pages in any of 7 positions, right in the browser. Worked example, a 14-page thesis whose cover shouldn't count: load the PDF, set the range to 2-14, set the start number to 1, and page 2 prints '1' at bottom center in 11-point type. The margin box defaults to 28 points — 28 ÷ 72 is about 0.39 inches from the edge — and you can push it to 120 points, roughly 1.67 inches, if a binding gutter would swallow the number. The live preview shows page 1 with your exact settings before you commit.

One honest limitation: the formats are arabic numerals only — there's no roman-numeral mode, so academic front matter numbered i, ii, iii needs a second pass or a desktop editor. For everything else, work the preview like a proof sheet. If a number sits too close to the trim, raise the margin in 12-point steps — 28, 40, 52 — since 12 points is exactly one-sixth of an inch. Overshooting the range is safe too: ask for 2-99 on a 14-page file and it simply stops at the last page.

Pdf Page Numbers questions, answered straight

Can I continue numbering from a previous file?
Yes — that's what the start-at field is for. If part one ended on page 8, set the start number to 9 and the first stamped page of part two shows 9 no matter how many pages follow. One catch: the 'Page X of Y' total is computed from the current file, so across a split document the plain number format keeps things consistent.
What font size should the numbers be?
The default 11-point matches typical body text, and that's the right first guess for reports and academic work. Dense two-column pages often read better at 9, while large-format or presentation-style PDFs can carry 14 or bigger without looking clumsy. The field accepts 6 through 40 points, and the live preview settles the argument in seconds — trust it over any rule of thumb.
Can I stamp anything other than numbers, like a date or draft label?
No — this tool stamps page numbering in its four formats, not arbitrary text. For a 'DRAFT' watermark or a footer date you need a different tool entirely. What it does do well is position and format control: if all you need is a number in the right corner at the right size, this is faster than opening a full editor.
What happens if my range goes past the last page?
Nothing breaks — the tool simply numbers up to the final page and stops. That's why the range box suggests something like 2-99 for skipping a cover: you don't need to count the exact last page first. Set the start number to match, check the preview, and the numbering behaves as if you'd entered the precise ending page by hand.
