Story Generator — Seeded Arcs and Honest Reversals

Deterministic client-side arc engine; optional user-key Gemini polish.

Quick answer: Generate short stories from seeded genre arcs (want → obstacle → reversal → cost). Same seed, same story — iterate like a director. Optional Gemini pass with your own key.

How to use

  1. Pick genre + tone, set seed.
  2. Generate beats.
  3. Optional Gemini polish; copy and expand.

About this tool

Random-text generators are slot machines; this one is a writer's bench. Every story is built from a genre arc — a concrete want, an obstacle that costs something, a reversal that re-contextualizes the want, and an ending that pays the cost — driven by a seed you control. Same seed reproduces the same story, so you can tune genre, tone and length deliberately instead of re-rolling. The engine outputs clean beats (scene-by-scene), ready to expand by hand; paste your own Gemini key (memory-only) for a prose pass. Your file never leaves this page — processing runs in your browser via WebAssembly; nothing is uploaded and the file is dropped from memory when you close the tab.

From genre and seed to a working outline

The AI story generator turns three inputs — a genre, a numeric seed and a protagonist — into a scene-by-scene beat outline you can expand into a draft. Try it: set the genre to thriller, type 'a night-shift pharmacist' into the protagonist box, leave the seed at 7, and hit Generate beats. What comes back is roughly 400 to 700 words of beats with a real spine — a concrete want, an obstacle that costs something, a reversal that re-frames the want, an ending that pays the cost. Change the seed to 8 and the same pharmacist gets a different arc. Switch back to 7 and the identical outline returns, every time.

The craft tip: write down seeds that worked. Since the same seed plus settings always reproduces the same skeleton, a seed is a bookmark you can hand to a collaborator — they'll see the exact beats you expanded, not a stranger's version. And treat the output as scaffolding, not prose. The engine gives you load-bearing moments; the texture, dialogue and pacing are still yours to write, which is the point. Draft from the beats the same afternoon, while the arc is fresh in your head.

Ai Story Generator questions, answered straight

Do I need a Gemini key to use it?
No. The beat engine runs entirely in your browser with no account and no key. The optional Gemini field is only a polish pass — paste your own key if you want machine-written prose on top of the beats, and the key stays in memory rather than being saved. Skip it entirely and the outline works exactly the same.
Can I publish or sell a story built from these beats?
Yes — the beats are a skeleton and the finished prose is yours. Nothing in the output is locked behind a license, and because you're doing the actual writing, the story is your work. If you use the optional AI polish pass, check the disclosure rules of wherever you publish, since platforms increasingly want AI assistance mentioned up front.
What makes a good protagonist entry?
A role plus a pressure. 'A night-shift pharmacist' works because the job implies exhaustion, access and odd hours the obstacle can press on. Two or three words of tension beat a paragraph of backstory here — 'a retired boxer who coaches kids,' 'a limo driver in debt' — because the arc engine needs a want and a vulnerability to bite into, not a résumé.
Do seeds transfer between genres?
Only within the same settings. Seed 7 in thriller builds one arc; the same 7 in comedy draws different beats, because each genre feeds the engine its own arc template. So lock the genre first, then hunt seeds inside it — comparing seed 7 against seed 12 within one genre tells you something, while cross-genre comparisons just tell you the genres are different.
