About this tool

Most grammar checkers keep your writing on their servers. This checker sends only the text you paste, once, to the free public LanguageTool API — no account, no document storage, no watermark on results. It catches subject-verb agreement, article mistakes, common confusions (their/there, its/it's), punctuation and British/American spelling. Click any suggestion to apply the fix, then copy the clean text.

FAQ

Is my text stored anywhere?
No. The text is sent once to the free LanguageTool API to compute corrections; this site stores nothing and LanguageTool's free public API does not keep text.
Which languages work?
English (US/UK) is default; auto-detect covers 25+ languages on the free tier.
Is there a length limit?
The free public API accepts ~20,000 characters per check — split longer documents.
Does it check plagiarism?
No — use our Plagiarism Checker for that; this tool checks correctness, not originality.
How fast is it?
A few hundred words are checked in about a second.
Can I use it offline?
No — grammar checking needs the language model, which lives on the free API.

Two fixes applied in one pass: an example

The grammar checker scans pasted text for spelling, grammar, punctuation and word-confusion errors, then applies your chosen fixes with a click. Take a typical offender: 'Their going to be late, and we cant wait forever.' Two issues surface. 'Their' is flagged as a their/there/they're confusion — the fix is 'They're,' the contraction of 'they are,' which is what the sentence means. 'Cant' is missing its apostrophe and becomes 'can't.' Click both suggestions and copy the corrected line — 'They're going to be late, and we can't wait forever.' — and it's done in about the time it took to paste.

Two habits make it behave. Set the dialect first: with US English selected, words like 'colour' and 'centre' get flagged as British spellings, and switching the selector to UK lets them pass untouched. Then mind the size — the free API takes about 20,000 characters per check, so a long report goes in section by section. And read every suggestion before applying it; the checker proposes, you decide. A sentence that's technically correct but odd will sometimes draw a flag you should ignore, and that's fine.

Grammar Checker questions, answered straight

Will it rewrite my sentences for tone or style?
No — this is a correctness tool, not a ghostwriter. It catches agreement errors, misspellings, punctuation problems and common word confusions, and it will note some clumsy constructions, but it won't restructure a paragraph or punch up a cover letter. Fix the red and yellow issues, then do a separate editing pass for voice, rhythm and anything the engine can't judge.
Why did it flag something that's actually correct?
Because it's a pattern-based language model, not a mind-reader. Proper nouns, technical terms, quoted dialogue and deliberate fragments occasionally draw false positives — proper names in particular confuse any checker. The suggestion list is advisory: skim it, apply what helps, dismiss what doesn't. If a flagged sentence reads fine aloud, trust your ear and move on; nobody grades the rejections.
Does it work on text with special characters or emoji?
Ordinary punctuation, accented letters and most symbols pass through fine — the checker reads plain text, so quotes and dashes are handled normally. Emoji won't be corrected, but they don't break the check either; they're just ignored characters around real words. If you're pasting from a PDF or a chat export, watch for broken line breaks, which can split sentences and confuse the analysis.
Is there a minimum length for a check?
No — a single sentence gets checked as thoroughly as a chapter, so running a two-line email reply through it is perfectly normal use. Longer text simply takes a little longer and may need splitting at the character limit anyway. In practice most people check in paragraph-to-email-sized chunks, which is also the fastest way to apply fixes and copy the result back.
