Millisecond-accurate afade curves plus an optional dB gain trim.

Duration is read on-device so the fade-out lands exactly at the end of the track.

Quick answer: Add smooth fade-in and fade-out to any song or voice recording, with optional gain boost or cut — durations in milliseconds, processed locally, free.

How to use

  1. Load audio → the status line shows its length.
  2. Set fade-in / fade-out ms and optional gain.
  3. Apply → download the MP3.

About this tool

Podcast intros, mixtape transitions, ringtones that do not end with a click — fades are the finishing touch. Set your fade-in and fade-out in milliseconds and this tool applies FFmpeg's afade curves at the exact right spots: it reads the track's duration on-device first, so the fade-out starts precisely where the song ends, not roughly. An optional gain control (−12 to +12 dB) boosts or trims overall level in the same pass. Everything runs locally through the ~30 MB WebAssembly engine. Your file never leaves this page — processing runs in your browser via WebAssembly; nothing is uploaded and the file is dropped from memory when you close the tab.

FAQ

My fade-out is ignored — why?
The fade-out needs the track's duration; if the browser cannot read it (rare formats), the tool says so instead of guessing.
What does gain do?
It raises or lowers the whole track by that many dB before the fades are applied.
Which curves are used?
FFmpeg afade — a smooth equal-power-style fade, the standard for music.
MP3 only?
Yes, 192 kbps — small and universally accepted. Convert to WAV first if you need lossless.
Is my song uploaded?
Never. Your file never leaves this page — processing runs in your browser via WebAssembly; nothing is uploaded and the file is dropped from memory when you close the tab.

Fading a 3:42 track without the ending click

The Audio Fader adds a fade-in and fade-out to any song or voice track, with both lengths set in milliseconds plus an optional gain trim from −12 to +12 dB. Take a track that runs 3:42 — 222,000 milliseconds. A 2,000 ms fade-in lifts the first two seconds smoothly out of silence. A 4,000 ms fade-out is anchored to the end: the tool reads the track's duration on-device first, so the fade begins at 3:38 and lands exactly on the final sample instead of cutting off mid-note. Add +6 dB of gain and the whole waveform doubles in amplitude before the fades are drawn over it.

Fades aren't one-size-fits-all. Music wants room to breathe — 2 to 4 seconds on the way out sounds natural. Voice is different: a 300 ms fade-in on a podcast kills the plosive pop without sounding edited, and a long fade-out on someone talking just feels like they wandered off. Watch the gain, too. Pushing a loud, mastered track up 12 dB slams the peaks into a hard ceiling and flattens them into distortion. Keep boosts modest on loud material; when a file is genuinely quiet, proper normalization beats brute gain.

Audio Fade questions, answered straight

How long should a fade-out be?
For songs, 2 to 4 seconds usually sounds natural. Spoken word needs far less — 200 to 500 milliseconds cleans up an ending without drawing attention. Ringtones sit in between at roughly a second, so the loop point never clicks. Start there, then trust your ears over any formula.
Can I fade only one end of the track?
Yes. Leave the side you don't want at 0 and the filter simply skips it. A fade-in alone works well for mixes that start cold; a fade-out alone is the classic fix for tracks that stop abruptly or crowd noise that keeps rolling after the speech ends.
Why did my boosted track start distorting?
Gain raises every sample, and digital audio has a hard ceiling at 0 dBFS. If the source is already mastered loud, a +10 or +12 dB push shoves the peaks past that ceiling and they flatten into audible crunch. Keep boosts to a few dB on loud material, or normalize properly instead.
What does the milliseconds number actually mean?
One thousand milliseconds equals one second, so 2,500 ms is a two-and-a-half-second fade. The fade-in always starts at 0:00; the fade-out is anchored to the end, which is why the tool reads your track's duration first — a 5,000 ms fade-out on a 3:00 file begins at 2:55.
